26 au 30/03/2023 - Fundamentals of Fracture - Dresden

Symposium “Fundamentals of Fracture” à Dresden du 26-30 mars.

La date limite d’inscription est le 1er décembre.

3rd International Symposium on the Fundamentals of Fracture

Fracture is a complex multi-scale, multi-physics phenomenon and a fundamental, mechanism-based understanding is needed to disentangle the underlying, interacting processes. With this topical session we aim at connecting specialists from the fields of solid-state physics, materials science, continuum mechanics, statistical physics and mathematics to cover theory, numerical modeling and experiments related to:

• Initiation of fracture and early stage of crack propagation • Environment-assisted cracking • Grain boundary fracture and interface cracks • Crack propagation in heterogeneous media • Interplay of fracture and plasticity • Fracture of nanostructured and disordered materials • Mesoscale, micromechanical and local approaches to fracture • Linking experimental and computational fracture analysis • Machine learning aided fracture analysis

The symposium will be held as part of the DPG Spring Meeting of the Condensed Matter Section of the German Physical Society. With more than 10.000 physicists annually from Germany and abroad, the DPG-Frühjahrstagungen (Spring Meetings) rank among the largest physics congresses in Europe.

It will be held 26.03. - 31.03.2023 in Dresden, Germany.

Dresden, a former UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city center and is one of the most visited cities in Germany.

Dresden is easily reached by air, rail or car. The Dresden International Airport (DRS), with flights connecting to many German and European cities, is close to the city.

Several autobahn routes (A4, A13, A17) and rail lines connect Dresden to the rest of Germany and the nearby Czech Republic. Berlin is only about 200 Km (120 miles) north of Dresden. Prague in the Czech Republic lies only 150 Km (90 miles) south of Dresden.

Abstracts are due until 1 December 2022, 23:59 Central European Time (there will be no extension of this deadline!). The submission of contributions is possible online under

(choose MM: Metals & Materials Physics Division and later Topic: Fundamentals of Fracture)

The early bird conference fees is 270 Euro (see for details)
