Post-doc position 2024 - Modelling and simulation of buildings under seismic events
The project focuses on the development of modelling techniques and numerical simulation to assess damage in buildings during seismic events. The technique uses Operational Modal Analysis coupled with Finite Element numrical modelling to detect and locate damage. Several developments are available in the literature but are limited to the analysis of a single building. Such approach is inadequate in dense urban areas, where structures interact with each other. The novelty of this study lies in the way these interactions are considered in the models. The methodology is based on the combination of different scales of structural refinement in a single model and on the minimization of a computational-experience gap to identify interaction parameters. First the FE technique is used to develop the methodology. In a second step, the method is adapted to macro-element modelling, which is a simplified approach regarding mechanical consitutive laws but much more efficient in terms of calculation time.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with research teams from the University of Technology of Tarbes (UTTOP, FRANCE) and from the Universitat Polytècnica de Catalunya of Barcelona (UPC, SPAIN). Exchanges are planned between the two entities, with inward and outward mobility.
